While working as the Director of Health Education for the Santa Barbara County Public Health Department, Dr. McCann produced and co-hosted nearly two dozen health education television programs, entitled Healthy for Life. Co-produced and broadcast in Spanish Una Vida Saludable/Healthy For Life addressed critical health issues, such as cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, and HIV. Integrating guest experts with healthy cooking and physical activity segments, the shows were viewed by 30-40,000 area residents, and DVDs of some shows were distributed to patients through local clinics. The show was honored with a 2011 Model Practice Award by the National Association of County & City Health Officials.

Radio

Dr. McCann hosted and produced the popular public affairs radio show, Speaking of Sex on KCSB, 91.9 FM KCSB, for 14 years. The show was produced in Spanish and English and featured guest speakers and listener call-in. Called the ‘Best public affairs show on the air,’ Speaking of Sex was the only sexuality radio program produced and broadcast on the central coast of California.
